Replicate multiple Dynamics 365 accounts to one or many databases.
CData Sync for Dynamics 365 is a stand-alone application that provides solutions for a variety of replication scenarios such as replicating sandbox and production instances into your database. Both Sync for Windows and Sync for Java include a command-line interface (CLI) that makes it easy to manage multiple Dynamics 365 connections. In this article we show how to use the CLI to replicate multiple Dynamics 365 accounts.
About Dynamics 365 Data Integration
CData simplifies access and integration of live Microsoft Dynamics 365 data. Our customers leverage CData connectivity to:
- Read and write data in the full Dynamics 365 ecosystem: Sales, Customer Service, Finance & Operations, Marketing, and more.
- Extend the native features of Dynamics CRM with customizable caching and intelligent query aggregation and separation.
- Authenticate securely with Dynamics 365 in a variety of ways, including Azure Active Directory, Azure Managed Service Identity credentials, and Azure Service Principal using either a client secret or a certificate.
- Use SQL stored procedures to manage their Dynamics 365 entities - listing, creating, and removing associations between entities.
CData customers use our Dynamics 365 connectivity solutions for a variety of reasons, whether they're looking to replicate their data into a data warehouse (alongside other data sources)or analyze live Dynamics 365 data from their preferred data tools inside the Microsoft ecosystem (Power BI, Excel, etc.) or with external tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.).
Getting Started
Configure Dynamics 365 Connections
You can save connection and email notification settings in an XML configuration file. To replicate multiple Dynamics 365 accounts, use multiple configuration files. Below is an example configuration to replicate Dynamics 365 to SQLite:
Windows
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<CDataSync>
<DatabaseType>SQLite</DatabaseType>
<DatabaseProvider>System.Data.SQLite</DatabaseProvider>
<ConnectionString>OrganizationUrl=https://myaccount.operations.dynamics.com/;Edition=Sales;</ConnectionString>
<ReplicateAll>False</ReplicateAll>
<NotificationUserName></NotificationUserName>
<DatabaseConnectionString>Data Source=C:\my.db</DatabaseConnectionString>
<TaskSchedulerStartTime>09:51</TaskSchedulerStartTime>
<TaskSchedulerInterval>Never</TaskSchedulerInterval>
</CDataSync>
Java
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<CDataSync>
<DatabaseType>SQLite</DatabaseType>
<DatabaseProvider>org.sqlite.JDBC</DatabaseProvider>
<ConnectionString>OrganizationUrl=https://myaccount.operations.dynamics.com/;Edition=Sales;</ConnectionString>
<ReplicateAll>False</ReplicateAll>
<NotificationUserName></NotificationUserName>
<DatabaseConnectionString>Data Source=C:\my.db</DatabaseConnectionString>
</CDataSync>
Edition and OrganizationUrl are required connection properties. The Dynamics 365 connector supports connecting to the following editions: CustomerService, FieldService, FinOpsOnline, FinOpsOnPremise, HumanResources, Marketing, ProjectOperations and Sales.
For Dynamics 365 Business Central, use the separate Dynamics 365 Business Central driver.
OrganizationUrl is the URL to your Dynamics 365 organization. For instance, https://orgcb42e1d0.crm.dynamics.com
Configure Queries for Each Dynamics 365 Instance
Sync enables you to control replication with standard SQL. The REPLICATE statement is a high-level command that caches and maintains a table in your database. You can define any SELECT query supported by the Dynamics 365 API. The statement below caches and incrementally updates a table of Dynamics 365 data:
REPLICATE GoalHeadings;
You can specify a file containing the replication queries you want to use to update a particular database. Separate replication statements with semicolons. The following options are useful if you are replicating multiple Dynamics 365 accounts into the same database:
You can use a different table prefix in the REPLICATE SELECT statement:
REPLICATE PROD_GoalHeadings SELECT * FROM GoalHeadings
Alternatively, you can use a different schema:
REPLICATE PROD.GoalHeadings SELECT * FROM GoalHeadings
Run Sync
After you have configured the connection strings and replication queries, you can run Sync with the following command-line options:
Windows
Dynamics365Sync.exe -g MyProductionDynamics365Config.xml -f MyProductionDynamics365Sync.sql
Java
java -Xbootclasspath/p:c:\sqlitejdbc.jar -jar Dynamics365Sync.jar -g MyProductionDynamics365Config.xml -f MyProductionDynamics365Sync.sql
