Use wizards in DBArtisan to configure Smartsheet data as a data source.
The CData ODBC Driver for Smartsheet seamlessly integrates Smartsheet data into database management tools like DBArtisan by enabling you to access Smartsheet data as a database. This article shows how to create an data source for Smartsheet in DBArtisan and execute queries. You can then edit data visually and execute standard SQL.
About Smartsheet Data Integration
CData provides the easiest way to access and integrate live data from Smartsheet. Customers use CData connectivity to:
- Read and write attachments, columns, comments and discussions.
- View the data in individuals cells, report on cell history, and more.
- Perform Smartsheet-specific actions like deleting or downloading attachments, creating, copying, deleting, or moving sheets, and moving or copying rows to another sheet.
Users frequently integrate Smartsheet with analytics tools such as Tableau, Crystal Reports, and Excel. Others leverage our tools to replicate Smartsheet data to databases or data warehouses.
Getting Started
Integrate Smartsheet Data into DBArtisan Projects
If you have not already, first specify connection properties in an ODBC DSN (data source name). This is the last step of the driver installation. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure ODBC DSNs.
Smartsheet uses the OAuth authentication standard. To authenticate using OAuth, you will need to register an app to obtain the OAuthClientId, OAuthClientSecret, and CallbackURL connection properties.
However, for testing purposes you can instead use the Personal Access Token you get when you create an application; set this to the OAuthAccessToken connection property.
You can then follow the steps below to register Smartsheet data as a database instance in your project:
- In DBArtisan, click Data Source -> Register Datasource.
- Select Generic ODBC.
- Enter a name for the data source and select the DSN.
- Finish the wizard to connect to Smartsheet data. Smartsheet entities are displayed in the Datasource Explorer.
You can now work with Smartsheet data as you work with any other database. See the driver help documentation for more information on the queries supported by the Smartsheet API.
